Atheists are Good Christians Too

An atheist branch office of the United Church of Canada?  (link here)

I hope so.

I've been following the Rev. Greta Vosper on face book.  A United Church minister who has come out of the closet as an atheist, she is hoping that both she and her like-minded congregation can stay within the confines of her church.  The powers that be in the church are thinking about it, (likely an understatement :) ), and Ms Vosper will have the decision in a few weeks.

She's not hopeful.

But I don't see the problem.  The message I get from this is:

what you believe is not as important as what you do.

These are good people interested in coming together to support not just each other but the local community and the world in general.

Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
Matthew 7:20

But I have to say, I'm just so annoyed that she didn't come out of the Pagan closet.

Without Time

I walked a labyrinth last night.

Each time I opened my eyes while on the path I didn't know if I had been standing still for a thousand years or ten seconds.

The idea that I could have an out of body experience for the asking drifted through my head.  I decided against it.  Not because the idea was frightening - impossible to be frightened in the labyrinth, but because I was mildly concerned about getting back.

About wanting to come back -

the place of no time was so peaceful.

Eventually the path led me out of the labyrinth.

As instructed I turned back to face the entrance and said, "Thank-you".

And then I left.

Somehow a very different person.

Down on "Risen"

I went to see 'Risen", directed by Kevin Reynolds

It is the fictional story of the  spiritual resurrection  of Clavius,

a Roman centurion whose soul is fried from the brutality of his

job.  Pilate gives him the task of finding the body of Jesus before

the disciples hide it and declare that Christ has risen from

the dead.

You know how it goes.

If you don't,  read Matthew 27 & 28 or Luke 24.

The movie was mildly entertaining.  The landscape (somewhere in

Spain) was spectacularly barren - meant to look as barren as the

soul of Clavius I suppose.

The problem is that there are no women in the movie, just a tiny

role  for Mary Magdalene - looking far more  dewy than one might

suppose a hooker of her time and place  would have looked.

It is 2016.

That no woman thing looked antiquated.

People hoping to find the Divine Feminine within Christianity

shouldn't bother spending money or time on this movie.

The rest of you can go for a laugh.

Why Can't You Hear Me Singing

How many eyes do we need to read another

person's body language - some days with some

people it feels as if I am covered in eyes.

But often I can't speak, can't sing my own song...

You can't hear me singing

because my

song disappeared

down some rabbit hole

without Alice

in 1958.

But I want to sing now.

And you need to listen.

Oh the Humiliation

Our Lady of Port Weller
oil pastels, approx 8" x 8"

Well much to my dismay I recently found out that I'm not the only circus in town.

Not only did I come across a blog by a real live Episcopagan, I also read that the blogger is a bishop in the Episcopagan church!

A bishop!!

I would have gone with bishrix or bishrina but that is beside the point

Which, if you haven't guessed, is my suspicion that I may have come across her before and wasn't as original as I thought in the naming of this site.

Oh the shame.

So to my legion of followers, and that means both of you, let me assure you than I am not in any way, shape or form affiliated with the official Episcopagan church.

I mean you are always welcome to send money for the cause, but don't expect a tax receipt.

Treat Yourself to a Reindeer Goddess

I finally got around to putting one of my images on a tote bag.

Well I didn't do it personally , I sent the image off to Vista Print and they did it for me.  Because they have printing presses and ink and workers and things that come in so handy when it comes to making tote bags and I don't.

But I have to say it is beautiful - the photo doesn't do it justice.

It is a limited edition of 350 and each bag is signed and numbered by yours truly.

And of course it is my image on the great northern Reindeer Goddess carrying the sun across the sky between her antlers.

Check out the link if you are interested but please check out the whole CSource Wisdom store even if you don't want the bag.  It is a fascinating place and I've bought some excellent items there.

Mother Deer Mother

I happened to find this video clip in my face book feed this

morning.

As you might imagine this image took my breath away.

The contrast between the cold ritualized church and the pagan

wildness of the animal speaks about the state of my soul.

You can read more about The Mother in Her female reindeer

garb here.

No Sacraments for You, Faggots

The Sojourner

Did anyone notice?

The world wide Anglican Church this week
has upheld the traditional version of marriage
as a sacrament between men and women.

And they have taken some toys away from
the American Episcopalian Church for actually daring to assume that God loves all of Her Children.

Not too many people care one way or the other.

But for those of us who do care my comment, after pondering this issue deeply, is this:

What the frick is wrong with these people?

Baptism and The Episcopagen

"The Conversation", oil pastels

Sometimes you read something that readjusts

your thinking.

You know, the way one of those old Kodak

viewfinders moved you  onto a new picture

when you pushed down the lever at the side.

I just read Martha T.'s blog about baptism.

(link here)

I really like the analogy of finding God in the

shit.  Jungians believe that is the path to

individuation and I have to say that I agree.

I don't see individuation as a goal.  At least

not for me - the pile of shit I have to integrate

will take 1000 lifetimes to work through.

It's a process.

But her words got me thinking about baptism

and what it could possibly mean to an

Episcopagan.

Is it enough to know that such ideas as Martha's

are floating about beneath the rigid veneer of

the church?  I don't know if it makes me feel

any more warm and fuzzy about Christianity but

am grateful that at least in 2016 she won't be

burned at the stake ...

because such ideas give me hope.
